About the New Beginnings Program

New Beginnings began in 1990. We are a program run by Archway Community Services (formerly known as Abbotsford Community Services) along with the Abbotsford School District.

New Beginnings has a staff of 15 who work to provide the classroom education, the childcare services and the support to young mothers and fathers.

While parents are in school we care for their young children.  We also offer additional support and assistance to parents through our Mothers’ Support Worker.

We are funded by a number of different provincial government sources as well as the Abbotsford School District. In addition, we receive funds through donation from the Abbotsford Kiwanis, the Abbotsford Quilters Guild as well as several generous individuals and community groups.

Approximately 600 young women and men have graduated from New Beginnings with their high school diploma. Many of these graduates have also gone on to successfully complete college and university programs.

Each year we also hold a number of special events to celebrate the work of our students as well as to thank the many people and organizations who contribute to our success.

Many of our graduates come back to visit and some continue their association with New Beginnings by working with the Community Education on Adolescent Sexuality (CEAS) presentation panels.
